Alfred Angelo and Disney will debut their first collection of bridal gowns, Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo, at the National Bridal Market in Chicago on October 2, 2010. Marking their first collaboration, the bridal gown collection is inspired by the essence, style and personality of seven iconic Disney Princess characters: Ariel, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White and Tiana.

The Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo collection will be available in sizes 0 to 30W, at all Alfred Angelo Signature stores and select Alfred Angelo wholesale Partner Bridal Boutiques in 2011. All gowns will be priced $599 to $1,199. Sneak peek footage of the gowns can be seen in this new behind the scenes YouTube video from Disney Living.

"This collaboration is a wonderful testament of two long-standing, established and respected industry leaders...the magic and storytelling heritage of Disney and the internationally renowned bridal fashion of Alfred Angelo," says Michele Piccione, co-owner and Chief Creative Officer of Alfred Angelo. "For 75 years, our product has been known for great style, quality and affordability. We are excited to use our expertise to fulfill the dreams of brides everywhere who long to feel like a Disney Princess."

"Every bride wants to be a princess on her wedding day, and through this collaboration with bridal fashion experts Alfred Angelo, we can now extend the reach of the Disney Fairy Tale Wedding brand and make beautiful Disney Princess-inspired gowns accessible to all brides at a broad retail distribution and affordable prices," says Pam Lifford, executive vice president, global fashion and home, Disney Consumer Products.

Acclaimed Alfred Angelo designer Michael Shettel designed the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo gowns. Michael has a keen eye for trends and the ability to translate that vision into beautiful gowns. As a result, Michael sought to capture every girl's fantasy of feeling like a princess on her wedding day, while being inspired by the magic and identity of each Disney Princess. With each gown, brides can showcase their personal style. The collection includes classic, grand ball gowns in layers of tulle and sparkle net, updated fit and flare styles to highlight curves and movement, and pleated and wrapped bodices to flatter the bride's figure.

The treasures of the sea inspired Ariel's gown. The mermaid silhouette features re-embroidered lace, pearl beading, and sequin sparkles. Sleeping Beauty's gown is romantic with a dreamy, willowy skirt for this slumbering princess. Belle's wedding dress, with a draped waistline is inspired by the iconic ballroom dance scene from the film and focuses on making a grand entrance. Cinderella's gown radiates with sparkle as its inspiration is the fairy tale's enchanted glass slipper. Jasmine's wedding dress conveys freedom and individuality and as a result her shimmering soft satin gown is exotic with a bejeweled neckline and low cut back. Snow White's dress is inspired by nature, beauty and grace like the Disney Princess character herself The regal, one-shoulder taffeta gown for our newest princess, Tiana, reflects her independent spirit with an asymmetric bodice and ruched skirt.

Great Lives - Walt Disney

Satirical cartoonist Gerald Scarfe nominates Walt Disney in this weeks episode of Great Lives to be broadcast at 4.30pm on Tuesday 28th September on BBC Radio 4.

Gerald Scarfe spent much of his childhood in his sick bed, so it's not surprising that Disney cartoons and feature films meant so much to him. He can still recall the thrill at the prospect of seeing Pinocchio at the cinema, and then the agony of being lead away again in the rain because the tickets were too expensive.

Walt Disney came from a working family. His god-fearing father Elias, said by one writer to have 'hated Capital, and favoured Labour, but really needed to make a buck', found work where he could. So Walt lived a peripatetic childhood, and sought solace in drawing and play acting. Hard times early on did not make Walt frugal with money in adulthood, and despite the huge successes of the golden era of Disney, it was only with the opening of Disneyland that Walt attained any substantial personal wealth.

You don't have to look far to find myth surrounding Walt Disney. Even after his death, rumours that his body had been cryogenically frozen spread so widely that they soon slipped into folklore. He had actually been cremated, but the readiness with which the cryogenic claim was accepted perhaps bears witness to a man who was terrified of dying, who believed in the white hope of technology and who, some might say, had been searching all his life for an escape into an immortal, fairytale world.

Matthew Parris, Gerald Scarfe and guest experts Brian Sibley and Richard Williams, creator of Roger Rabbit, discuss the life of a complex cultural icon. A man who was seemingly unpretentious, and did not fit the image of movie mogul with his scruffy tweed jacket and awkward demeanour, yet a man who was accused of being a tyrannical egomaniac. The son of a socialist who ended up naming names at the House of Un- American Activities committee. Above all else perhaps though, they discuss the life of a man who strove tirelessly for perfection and who changed the cultural landscape of a little boy called Gerald, and arguably of the world, for ever.

Scarfe himself is best known for his classic images lampooning the great and the good of politics, and also in his iconic animation for Pink Floyd's The Wall. He reveals in this programme that he also spent time working on the Disney production Hercules.

BBC Radio 4 will be broadcasting this show again at 11pm on Friday 1st October 2010.

Let the Memories Begin

Disney Parks in the US launched its 2011 advertising campaign yesturday.  The new campaign is entitield   Let the Memories Begin and  here is the text of announcement.

In 2011, Disney guests will become the stars of a nightly spectacular when photos taken in the park during the day become larger-than-life projections on Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World Resort or “it’s a small world” at Disneyland Resort. This groundbreaking new experience will celebrate the family vacation memories created in Disney theme parks every day.

And this week, Disney guests will begin starring on television, too, as part of the new “Let the Memories Begin” campaign. For the first time, Disney Parks is featuring the home videos and snapshots of real guests in television ads and other marketing that will allow an audience of millions to share in true-life, heartfelt moments.

“A Disney vacation is the perfect way to create family memories that will last a lifetime,” said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, at a media announcement Thursday in New York. “We’ll spotlight those ‘only-at-Disney’ moments with family and friends during our ‘Let the Memories Begin’ campaign.”

A just-released survey of U.S. and Canadian families conducted for Disney Parks by Ypartnership, a noted research firm that tracks consumer insights and trends in travel, showed that vacation memories hold a special place in family history.

Nine out of 10 parents said they planned their vacations with the express hope that they would result in a lasting family memory, the survey showed. And those memories stuck with them – nearly three-quarters said they think back “often” or “very often” on their favorite vacation experiences.

‘Memories in the Making’ to be Shared on Disney Park Icons
Beginning in January 2011, some Disney parks guests will find that the memory they just made has become a larger-than-life image during a “Let the Memories Begin” nighttime experience.

At Walt Disney World Resort, the guest photos will be projected on the soaring spires of Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom. At Disneyland Resort, the iconic façade of “it’s a small world” will be the canvas for the show.

In both locations, Disney PhotoPass photographers will capture guests caught up in the Disney experience – a memory in the making – and as many as 500 photos will be used in each location every day, producers estimate.

The nighttime show will use the latest in high-intensity projection technology to create vivid visuals that seem to defy the architecture of the building. A new song commissioned for the show will provide an emotional context for these images of the Disney guest experience.

For TV Ads and More, Disney Parks Issues a ‘Call for Memories’
Beyond seeing their own projected photos in lights, guests also could become the stars of Disney Parks television commercials, online campaigns and social media opportunities that will showcase to the world the power of memories.

The campaign kicks off this week with a TV commercial created from videos posted online in social media forums.

For future TV commercials and other advertising and marketing programs, Disney Parks is asking guests to share their memories by uploading photos and videos at a special “Let the Memories Begin” online hub at From a first meeting with a princess to a laugh-filled watery touchdown on Splash Mountain, Disney Parks is looking for videos and photos that capture those never-to-be-forgotten experiences.

Some memories will be shared online, while others may be selected to share in print ads, brochures and other marketing – including television ads to air across the United States and Canada.

With real visitor images on iconic attractions and home video featured in commercials, the storytellers at Disney Parks are letting guests tell their own stories in 2011, Staggs said.

“We wanted to give our guests a powerful way to share the memories they create every day in our parks,” Staggs said. “Essentially, this becomes our first user-generated show and our first user-generated marketing campaign.

“A day at a Disney park is filled with magical experiences that become cherished and unforgettable memories – and now we’re helping our guests share those memories with the world.

More Ways to Make Disney Vacation Memories in 2011
To help make special memories last a lifetime, in 2011 Disney Parks is adding new theme park experiences in California and Florida, new vacation opportunities on the high seas with Disney Cruise Line, a new luxury resort on a breathtaking lagoon in Hawaii, and new ways to explore the world with Adventures by Disney.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s in store:

“World of Color” (Disneyland Resort): “World of Color,” the new nighttime spectacular presented in Disney California Adventure park, brings classic Disney and Disney•Pixar animation to life with nearly 1,200 powerful fountains, larger-than-life projections, lasers, fire, music and special effects.

Disney California Adventure Expansion (Disneyland Resort): Next up for the continuing expansion of the park is the first major attraction based on the modern Disney classic, “The Little Mermaid.” The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure will treat guests to a musical retelling of the classic motion picture as the best-loved songs come alive in magnificent scenes all around them.

New Star Tours 3-D Adventure (Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort): Bridging that “long time ago” between the two “Star Wars” trilogies, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will take flight in 2011 and take voyagers to thrilling destinations throughout the “Star Wars” galaxy. And it will all happen in brilliant, 3-D technology.

Disney Cruise Line: The Disney Dream, the newest ship of the Disney Cruise Line, launching January 2011, will bring to life grand innovations and more, offering a cruise experience from stem to stern that caters to preferences of the entire family. The Disney Wonder cruise ship will “go west” in early 2011; and new West Coast itineraries for Disney Cruise Line will include, for the first time, Alaska cruises sailing from Vancouver.

Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina Hawai`i: A first-of-its-kind Disney resort in Hawaii creates a perfect setting for family fun. The new resort, which includes traditional hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club villas, is being built on 21 acres of oceanfront property, 17 miles from Honolulu International Airport and approximately 30 minutes from Waikiki.

Adventures by Disney: In 2011, Adventures by Disney guests will step off of planes, cruise ships and camels into living chapters of history during seven- and nine-night Egypt itineraries. These guided travel vacations allow families to visit destinations they never dreamed possible – including Italy, South Africa and China – with the assurance of the Disney name.

Grand Opening of Milton Keynes Disney Store rescheduled.

The Grand Opening of the new look Disney Store at the Centre MK in Milton Keynes has been rescheduled to next weekend.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse will officially open the store at 11am on Saturday 25th September during the Grand Opening Celebration. They will be joined by Paige O'Hara, best known as the voice of Princess Belle in the Oscar winning animated classic, Beauty and the Beast.

From 12 - 5.30pm, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Belle and the Beast will be hosting meet and greets in Middleton Hall, so don't forget your camera! Plus there will be in-store events all day and a free gift for the first 100 guests who make a purchase!

Disney’s brand new store, located on Silbury Arcade near entrance 7, opened on Wednesday 15 September.

This brand new Disney Store concept is changing the face of retail in Milton Keynes and is the first store of its kind in England. Once you step inside you’ll be dazzled by ground breaking technology and interactive elements that brings a little bit of magic to the high street.

A unique opening ceremony will take place every single day in every Disney Store. One lucky child will be chosen each day to take part in the opening ceremony and officially ‘unlock imagination’. A giant clock on the What’s New Board will count down to the opening moment by revealing 12 Disney characters. A special appearance by Tinker Bell, spreading her magical pixie dust on the clock, will bring the store to life as the child turns the key in the imagination lock and officially opens the store. Every child who opens a store will receive an exclusive gift – a scaled replica of the imagination key.

Six trees feature unique Disney animation that constantly changes throughout the day. During the summer, the trees come to life with fresh green leaves to reflect the season whereas in the autumn, they will turn a rich orange and red, and the leaves will start to fall. Some of Disney’s favourite characters make appearances in the trees – look out for the Buzz Lightyear and Woody-themed trees to celebrate the forthcoming release of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3. Hidden Mickey’s have also been subtly inserted into the animation that appears on the trees.

Five Disney princesses make an appearance in the Magic Mirror in the Disney Princess Castle. Belle, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Tiana each have their own short stories that they tell when they are brought to life by little princesses in the store. All stories were recorded exclusively for the Disney Store.

The Disney Skyline that surrounds the perimeter of the store gives the illusion that you are at the centre of a bigger, more magical world. The Skyline includes landmarks from around the world that have featured in Disney films, such as Big Ben (Peter Pan) and the Notre Dame (Hunchback of Notre Dame). The Disney skyline features some favourite characters who fly past throughout the day, including Dumbo, Wall-E and Eve, as well as Peter Pan. Look out for a Mickey Mouse-shaped balloon as well.

The Disney Store Theatre houses a giant screen. Children can choose from over 50 clips on the Imagination Station, which can then be watched on the screen. They can pick from a selection of their favourite Disney characters and then have a selection of clips to choose from. For example, a Toy Story fan could choose to watch the trailer for Toy Story 3, a clip from one of the three films or one of the songs including You’ve Got a Friend in me.

The Disney Store Theatre will also host a number of events. Free events, which will take place most days, include animation classes, storytelling experiences, trivia quizzes and Showtime - an event in which children can learn to sing and dance like their favourite characters, such as Hannah Montana. In addition, the Imagination Parade allows kids to re-enact a Disney parade through the store. Events are advertised on the electronic What’s New Board in the front window of the store and are approximately 15 minutes long.

Within the Disney Store Theatre, special occasions will also be celebrated. Children’s birthdays, the birth of a new child or the passing of exams are just some of the celebrations that can be recognised. The child’s name will appear on the giant screen with store-wide celebrations including special music and firework animations in the trees. A free badge or certificate is also given to the child as a keepsake of their special day or achievement.

At closing time, every day, the sun will set on the store, as our remaining guests are wished farewell in the Closing Ceremony. A calming and sparkling way to end the day.

Featuring groundbreaking technology, interactive storytelling and Disney Store exclusive merchandise, the stores will bring Disney’s most beloved characters to the high street for families to enjoy together.

Paramount Pictures said Friday it has reached a deal to open its first theme park in Europe in Spain, the world's third most visited country, which will create thousands of jobs.

In a statement, Paramount Licensing said it "will not be an investor in the project but will licence intellectual property from its vast library of films and provide conceptual master planning and design for the project."

The park will be located in the southeastern region of Murcia on the Mediterranean coast at a yet-to-be disclosed date, it added.

"More details about the project will be announced in the next few months," the statement said.

Could Disneyland Paris become the home for the Marvel Super Heroes?

Following the anoucement this week of Euro Disney S.C.A.'s new deal with the French Government, Philippe Gas, the chief executive of Euro Disney, said one idea for a third park is "a superheroes park".  Which is not a great surprise  following the acquisition of Marvel by Disney - although the construction of a third park is a long-term vision.

Mr Gas said there is a possibility that a decision to build a third park could come as late as 2020, although it may come earlier if planned work on the Disney Studios park is completed.

Hong Kong's Disneyland has said that it plans to partner with the Disneyland Paris to build the first Toy Story Amusement Park in Asia before the end of 2011.

In the summer of 2010, children around the globe watched the Disney-Pixar production Toy Story 3. On August 17, 2010 Disneyland Paris unveiled a mini theme park featuring Toy Story and with live performers imitating the movie.

First step towards a third theme park at Disneyland Paris

Euro Disney SCA  hopes to build a third theme park after signing a fresh 20-year pact with the French Government, the owners of the undeveloped land surrounding the parks.

The new agreement enables the group, in which the Walt Disney Company holds a 40pc stake, to continue building on the site in Marne-la-Vallée outside of Paris for a further 13 years.

The news of more development to the site follows news earlier this year that the resort was battered by the economic downturn. Attendance slid 8pc to 6.5m in the first half of the year to the end of March, leaving it with a net loss of €114m (£95m).

In the latest deal with the French Government, the extension of the deadline by which Euro Disney SCA would have to develop the land from 2017 (under the previous deal signed on 24 March 1987) to 2030, has provided the time needed to construct a third theme park.

The French government originally gave consent for Disneyland Paris to be built on the condition that Disney would only buy pockets of land in stages once previous plots have been developed. It was France's first regional development public-private partnership.

Euro Disney SCA said earlier this year that it had made €47m from the sale of land to French commercial property group Klepierre and French insurer AXA.

In the latest agreement with the French government, authorities have simultaneously agreed to increase the number of hectares available for Euro Disney to develop, from 1,943 to 2,230. This will mean greater space for accommodation, entertainment and an eco-tourism resort.

Les Villages Nature de Val d’Europe, a project based on sustainable development, will be built in partnership with the Pierre & Vacances Group subject to market conditions.

The site would see Euro Disney SCA enter the residential property business, with the possibility of eco-friendly holiday homes being contructed and then sold to private buyers.

The environmental resort would be developed in phases over a period of 20 years and could grow to approximately 500 hectares in size. By 2030, it is believed that projects within the new perimeter will generate an approximate investment of $8bn by various tourist and urban developers, including €1.8bn for the new eco-tourism scheme.

Philippe Gas,the group's chief executive, said: "We are renewing our collective confidence in the future of Disneyland Paris. For over twenty years, this model has brought sustained growth to the region, while ensuring a close relationship with our public partners and neighbouring communities.

"We are committed to continue developing our tourist destination and supporting France’s tourism leadership."
